Wessex Area ArtsFest 25th April 2018
It was decided many months ago that Wessex Area would organise an Arts Festival to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of the Arts Society.
Devizes Corn Exchange, in the centre of a thriving market town and easily accessible to most of our societies fitted the bill perfectly.
Most of our 22 societies organised their own members' exhibition and then forwarded one fine artwork and one decorative artwork chosen by their members. These were then displayed in the Corn Exchange on Wednesday 25th April for all to see - members and non-members alike so it was a true celebration of our members' skill and creativity. We were very pleased to have our national Chairman, June Robinson, with us to open the exhibition.
Paul Atterbury delighted his audience on the same day with a talk on "The Canal Age" which was very relevant to Devizes as the Kennet and Avon Canal flows through the town.
In excess of 400 people came through the doors that day which indicates that our ArtsFest was not only inclusive but outward looking and does much to promote The Arts Society at a local level.
Congratulations to Elizabeth Barnikel!

Young Carers Raise The Roof
Young Carers from Wiltshire and Somerset received a standing ovation from those who gathered in their hundreds in Bath Abbey to enjoy the 2017 Bath Festival's 'Party in the City'. An assortment of handmade percussion instruments accompanied young musicians playing guitars, recorders, string instruments and electronic keyboards, all working together to creating a joyful and rhythmic sound. There were also some quiet and reflective moments of song and poetry written by the young people. The Bath Community Gospel Choir was there to help and support the young people as they reached out to the audience with their thoughts and feelings expressed in art and music.
The music was accompanied by an animated film which show-cased the young people's artwork. Members of The Arts Society Bath were pleased to be able support the Bath Philharmonia's Creative Learning Team in funding this special project which is part of an ongoing Arts Award programme.
Kerry ,a member of the group and now also a volunteer helper, commented on how valuable this sort of opportunity is as it gives the Young Carers the chance to 'create something amazing'.
